I was just reading this article and thinking. The article talks about making most government related tasks internet based, which seems like an awesome idea, no travelling down to home affairs and waiting ages in line for your id (the article is uk based and I doubt it could ever even be suggested it be implemented here) and so on. Which obviously brings up the argument that this would result in a lot of people losing their jobs, and this is what I was thinking about: If everything was made easier in this internet based form it would make life a lot better and easier for a whole lots of people, but on the other hand a lot of people will be losing their jobs, but to me it just doesn't seem right to deny progress because some people will lose their jobs. I'm sure it happens all over though and I think it's stupid.

Intoxicated driving proficiency exam 11:43 PM

So I had this great idea (I think). I was thinking, alcohol affects people differently and it sucks for the people who can drink a lot and still function perfectly to be grouped with the majority. So before you shut this idea down, I propose what I've decided to call the intoxicated driving proficiency exam and it's really quite simple. So at some point in your life you take this exam which involves you taking a control test to measure certain aspects that are involved with driving, such as basic motor skills, reaction times, concentration, alertness and so on. I'm sure all these test currently exist and are quite common so they won't require spending lots of money or anything. From then on you are slowly introduced increasing increments of alcohol. I'm not quite sure how this would be issued but it could be drinking cans of beer (in a certain time period) or drinking shots or whatever, I know this sounds stupid but this isn't really the best thought out part of this plan and I think someone else could figure this out, so then you take the test again and so on and so on to get a comprehensive set of results. This test could be repeated say 3-4 times to record the correct data. Once they have all the results they mark you to see how much alcohol you can drink before you become too intoxicated to drive against some sort of predefined scale. Once you have your score you are issued a new driver's licence with the information on it (eg, how much alcohol you can have in your blood) and then when you get breathalysed and you are over the current alcohol limit, they can compare against your score and conclude that you are actually fine to drive. The alternative to this is zero tolerance, ie. if you have not been ranked on the intoxicated driving proficiency exam, you may not have any alcohol in your system while driving, this is to create an incentive to actually do the test.

So yeah, I think this is a pretty good idea, I don't know how viable it is but I think it sounds cool.
